Tools
screen_party
Fuzzy-matches one name against every list in the Consolidated Screening List, using primary names and aliases. Tolerates case, accents, punctuation, word order, company suffixes (LLC, Ltd, GmbH, OOO, PJSC), Cyrillic input and common transliterations (Mohammed / Muhammad, Yevgeny / Evgeniy). Returns ranked possible matches with score, matched alias, list, programs, type, addresses, countries, IDs, a link to the official entry and the list's as-of date, or a clear "no match at threshold" result.
Inputs: name (required), country, type (individual, entity, vessel, aircraft), min_score (default 0.85), limit (default 5), detail (summary or full).
{"name": "Rosneft Oil Company", "country": "RU"}screen_parties
Screens up to 25 names in one call and returns the best possible match per name in compact form, with a summary count.
{"names": ["Gazprombank", "Acme Widgets LLC", "Mar Azul"], "min_score": 0.85}list_status
Shows each list's as-of date and entry count, the source file timestamp, the HTS revision, and when the mirror was last built and checked.
{}hts_search
Keyword search over HTS descriptions, including parent headings. Returns 8- and 10-digit lines with code, description, context, general duty rate and unit. Everyday words such as laptop, drone or e-bike are mapped to HTS wording, and the mapping is shown.
{"keyword": "lithium-ion batteries", "limit": 5}hts_rate
Looks up one HTS code (4 to 10 digits, dotted or not): description, full parent hierarchy, general, special (trade program) and column 2 rates, units, footnotes, Chapter 99 cross-references and the lines below it.
{"hts_code": "8471.30.01"}Scores run from 0 to 1. A score of 1 means the normalized names are identical; 0.85 and above usually means the same words with small spelling, order or transliteration differences. Weak aliases (OFAC's low-value "a.k.a." names) score lower on purpose.
Data sources and freshness
All data is public U.S. government data. This service keeps its own mirror and answers from it; your queries are never forwarded to the agencies.
- Consolidated Screening List (U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration), downloaded from data.trade.gov. The ITA refreshes this file from the source agencies hourly.
- OFAC SDN list files (U.S. Department of the Treasury), used to identify OFAC's "weak aliases".
- Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (U.S. International Trade Commission), full export of the current revision.
The mirror is checked on a recurring schedule and rebuilt when the source content changes. Current state:

Limitations
- U.S. lists only. UN, EU, UK and other national lists are not included.
- Name matching only. A possible match needs review against dates of birth, addresses and ID numbers in the official entry; a "no match" is not a clearance.
- OFAC's 50 Percent Rule: entities owned 50% or more by blocked persons are blocked even when they are not listed by name. This tool cannot detect them.
- The mirror can lag the official sources by hours. For time-critical decisions, check the official list (each result links to it).
- Tariffs: rates are the HTS column 1 (general, special) and column 2 rates. Chapter 99 additional duties (for example Section 301 or 232), antidumping and countervailing duties, quotas and country-of-origin rules are referenced where the HTS points to them but are not calculated. Not a binding classification.
Questions
Is this legal advice or a compliance determination?
No. Results are possible matches and reference data for a person to review. Verify every possible match against the official list entry and identifying details, and confirm tariff classifications with CBP, the official HTS or a licensed customs broker.
Which lists are screened?
All lists in the trade.gov Consolidated Screening List: SDN, EL, DPL, DTC, SSI, UVL, ACN, PLC, MEU, CMIC, NS-MBS, CAP, FSE. This covers the Treasury (OFAC), Commerce (BIS) and State Department export screening lists.
How current is the data?
The mirror is rebuilt from the official files whenever their content changes, on a recurring schedule. The list_status tool and the table on this page show each list's as-of date and when the mirror was last built and checked.
Is my data stored?
No query text, names, codes or results are stored or logged. Only anonymous daily counts of tool calls are kept. See the privacy policy.
